In a lush, green forest, lived a little rabbit named Chinu. Chinu was a very proud rabbit because he had so many friends. He had big, strong friends like the monkey, the bear, and the elephant. 'With friends this powerful, nothing can ever hurt me!' Chinu would often boast to himself.
One sunny afternoon, while Chinu was searching for sweet clover near the bushes, a fierce hunting dog suddenly emerged from the shadows. The dog spotted Chinu and began barking loudly, charging straight at him. Terrified, Chinu bolted through the forest.
He first spotted his friend, the monkey, swinging from a tree. "Monkey! Please help me! A hunting dog is chasing me!" Chinu cried out in panic. The monkey looked down and said, "Oh Chinu, I am right in the middle of picking these delicious mangoes. I can't stop now. Why don't you ask the big Bear for help?"
Heartbroken but determined, Chinu ran to the Bear. "Bear! The dog is coming for me! Please, save me!" he pleaded. The Bear yawned widely and replied, "I am far too sleepy to run around right now. Go find the Elephant; he is much stronger than I am."
Chinu rushed to the Elephant, hoping for protection. But the Elephant, busy splashing water in the river, simply said, "I am feeling very tired today, Chinu. I cannot chase anyone away. You must find someone else."
Feeling lonely and exhausted, Chinu realized that his 'powerful' friends were not there when he needed them most. The dog was getting closer and closer, its heavy paws thumping on the ground. Chinu felt like giving up. Suddenly, a tiny voice squeaked from near his feet. It was Pip, a small field mouse who lived under a nearby log.
"Chinu! Don't stop! Quick, crawl into this narrow hollow under the roots of that old tree!" Pip shouted. Chinu didn't hesitate. He dove into the tiny, cramped space just as the dog reached him. The dog sniffed around and barked angrily, but it was far too large to fit into the small hole. Chinu was safe.
When the dog finally gave up and left, Chinu crawled out, trembling. He looked at little Pip and said, "Thank you, Pip. My big friends turned their backs on me, but you risked everything to save me."
Pip smiled warmly and said, "A friend isn't measured by their size, but by the size of their heart when it matters most."
Moral
A true friend is not defined by their strength or size, but by their willingness to help in times of need.
