In a lush green village, a farmer named Muthappa owned a beautiful white cow that he loved dearly. One morning, when Muthappa went to the shed, he was shocked to find the cow missing!
Panic spread through the village. Everyone joined the search, but the cow was nowhere to be found. Finally, near the riverbank, they discovered the cow's hoofprints alongside the footprints of a person. However, the tracks vanished once they reached the other side of the river. The villagers suspected the thief had used the river to hide his path.
Desperate for help, they called Somu, a wise man from a neighboring village. Somu arrived and carefully examined the area where the cow was kept. He noticed that the cow wore a large bronze bell around its neck, secured tightly with a thick iron ring to prevent it from being easily removed. If the bell had rung during the theft, the thief would have been caught immediately.
Somu pondered deeply. 'The thief must have removed the bell silently to avoid detection,' he thought. He then asked the villagers, 'Who in this village has the skill to cut or remove such a heavy iron ring so precisely and quietly?'
After a moment of silence, a villager replied, 'Only Karuppan, our local blacksmith, is skilled enough to handle iron with such precision.'
Somu immediately summoned Karuppan for questioning. Faced with Somu's sharp logic, Karuppan grew nervous and eventually confessed, 'Yes, it was me. The cow was so beautiful that I couldn't resist stealing it.' Thanks to Somu's clever investigation, the cow was safely returned to Muthappa.
