The Living Legacy

The story illustrates that those who fulfill their social duties and help others are truly alive, while those who live only for themselves are as good as dead. He truly lives who knows (and discharges) the proper duties (of benevolence) He who knows them not will be reckoned among the dead

In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Arjun and his father, Ravi. Ravi was a hardworking farmer known for his kindness. One evening, Ravi returned home looking very tired. He had lost a bag containing all the savings he had kept for the year. Arjun felt a heavy sadness in his heart. 'Father, how will we manage now?' he asked worriedly.

Instead of being angry or despondent, Ravi sat Arjun down. 'Arjun, money can be earned again, but the chance to do good is a treasure. A person is not truly alive just because they breathe; they are alive when they serve others.' A few days later, despite having very little, Ravi helped an elderly neighbor, Meera, repair her broken roof and shared his meager grain with her.

Arjun watched this with confusion. 'But Father, we are struggling too!' he whispered. Ravi smiled warmly and said, 'Helping those in need is our duty to society. That is how we leave a mark on this world.' As time passed, the kindness Ravi showed came back to him. When a drought hit the village, the neighbors, whom Ravi had helped, came together to support his family. Arjun realized that his father wasn't just surviving; he was truly living through his goodness.
