In a peaceful valley lived a young boy named Leo. Leo was a boy of many wants; he always wanted the brightest toys, the sweetest candies, and the newest gadgets. He felt that the more he got, the more he wanted, and this made him restless.
One afternoon, while sitting by a clear stream, Leo met an old wise woman named Clara. Seeing his restless eyes, she asked, "What is it that you seek so deeply, Leo?"
"I want everything, Clara!" Leo replied sadly. "But the more I get, the hungrier my heart feels."
Clara smiled gently. "If you truly want something, do not seek things that pass away. Instead, seek the state of being free from wanting. If you desire to be without desire, you will find a peace that nothing can take away."
Leo took her words to heart. The next day, when he saw a beautiful wooden spinning top in a shop window, he felt the urge to grab it. But instead of fighting the urge, he practiced what Clara said. He thought, 'I desire to be content with what I have.' Slowly, the intense craving faded. He realized that by letting go of the need to 'have,' he gained a sense of freedom he had never known. He was no longer a slave to his whims.
