In a prosperous valley lived a young man named Leo. Leo was the son of the wealthiest merchant in the land. He had everything a person could dream of—silken clothes, the finest delicacies, and a palace-like home. However, Leo had one major flaw: he was incredibly lazy. He spent his days sleeping or staring blankly at the clouds.
One afternoon, a wise traveler visited the merchant. After observing Leo, the traveler sighed and said, 'You are a fortunate man, but your son is walking a dangerous path.' The merchant was worried. 'What do you mean?' he asked. The traveler replied, 'Wealth is like water. If it stays in a stagnant pond, it turns foul. If it flows, it gives life. Your son is a stagnant pond.'
To test this, the merchant placed a heavy bag of gold coins in front of Leo. 'Leo, what will you do with this wealth?' the merchant asked. Leo yawned, stretched, and said, 'It’s too heavy to carry. I think I’ll take a nap instead.'
The merchant turned to the traveler in despair. The traveler explained, 'Even if he owned the entire earth, a man without the will to act can never truly enjoy it. To him, gold is no different from stones.'
Realizing the gravity of his situation, Leo began to change. He started by helping in the small shops and learning how to manage tasks. As he embraced effort and purpose, he discovered that wealth was not just something to possess, but something to use to build a meaningful life.
