In a lush, green forest, a community of colorful birds lived in harmony, sharing the fruits and seeds of the land. Their peaceful life was suddenly threatened when a pack of hungry foxes began roaming near their nesting grounds. The birds were terrified and knew they needed a way to stay safe.
To protect themselves, the birds worked together to build a high wooden watchtower at the very top of the tallest tree. They made a rule: every day, one bird would sit in the tower to keep watch. If a fox was spotted, the lookout would chirp loudly to warn everyone to hide.
For many days, the system worked perfectly. One sunny afternoon, it was the turn of Kavi, a bright-eyed woodpecker, to take the watch. Kavi was a fast flyer, but he had a very restless nature.
As the hours passed, the forest remained quiet. No foxes appeared on the horizon. "This is so boring!" Kavi complained to himself. "I have nothing to do all day. I might as well make use of this wood!"
Driven by boredom, Kavi began to peck at the very beams that held the watchtower together. Tap! Tap! Tap! He pecked deeper and deeper into the structure. Suddenly, with a loud CRACK, the wooden tower gave way and tumbled to the forest floor.
The birds rushed to the scene, shocked by the destruction. They realized that if a fox had approached during that moment, they would have had no way to warn each other. Kavi looked down at his feet, feeling deeply ashamed of his recklessness.
The bird community met that evening to discuss what had happened. They understood that a job of trust requires patience and responsibility, not just skill.
