In a vibrant, sun-drenched forest, a young peacock named Mayu lived among many colorful birds. While Mayu had feathers that shimmered like jewels, her voice was loud and harsh. Whenever she tried to sing, the other young birds would chirp mockingly, "Stop that noise, Mayu! It sounds terrible!"
Deeply hurt by their laughter, Mayu spent her days hiding in the thickets, feeling like she didn't belong. One afternoon, she approached a wise, silver-feathered old dove named Elder Sky. "Elder Sky, why am I so different?" she sobbed. "I wish I had a voice as sweet as the others so they would stop teasing me."
Elder Sky smiled gently and led Mayu to a flowering branch where a Nightingale sat. "Mayu, you have heard the Nightingale sing, haven't you?" the dove asked. "Yes," Mayu whispered, "her melody is like magic."
Elder Sky then spoke to the Nightingale. "Dear singer, your voice is a gift to the forest. Are you happy?" To Mayu's surprise, the Nightingale sighed. "A beautiful voice is a lonely gift. I cannot dance with grand feathers like a peacock, nor can I glide majestically through the clouds. I am small and plain."
Mayu stared in disbelief. Elder Sky turned to her and said, "Do you see? The very thing you envy is the very thing the Nightingale dreams of possessing. You are young, Mayu. As you grow, your magnificent colors will bloom, and the whole forest will stop to admire you. Do not let the words of others dim your spirit."
Empowered by these words, Mayu stopped hiding. She realized that being different wasn't a flaw, but a promise of future beauty. She began to walk with her head held high, waiting for her time to shine.
