In a quiet valley lived a young man named Kavin. Lately, everything seemed to go wrong for him. Every small mistake felt like a huge mountain, and every disappointment felt like a heavy storm. He felt overwhelmed by the weight of his problems and decided to seek guidance from a wise hermit who lived atop the misty hills.

When Kavin arrived, the hermit looked into his tired eyes and understood his pain. Without saying a word, the hermit handed him a small wooden cup filled with water and a handful of coarse salt. "Take this salt and stir it into the cup. Then, take a sip," the hermit instructed.

Kavin did as he was told. As soon as the salty water touched his tongue, he winced and spat it out. "This is terrible! It is far too salty to swallow!" he complained, his eyes tearing up.

The hermit smiled gently and handed him another handful of salt. "Now, follow me," he said, leading Kavin to a vast, sparkling blue lake nearby. "Throw this salt into the lake, and then take a drink from the water."

Kavin tossed the salt into the deep waters and knelt by the shore to take a drink. He looked up, surprised. "This water is wonderful! It is cool, fresh, and tastes perfectly fine," he exclaimed.

The hermit sat beside him and said, "Kavin, the sorrows of life are like this salt. They are constant, and they do not change in amount. But the bitterness you feel depends on the vessel you use to hold them."

"If you have a small heart, like this tiny cup, every little bit of salt will make your life bitter and undrinkable. But if you expand your heart and mind to be like this great lake, the sorrows will enter you, but they will not change your essence. They will simply dissolve into the vastness of your spirit. Focus on being the lake, not the cup."

Kavin felt a great weight lift from his shoulders. He realized that while he couldn't change his problems, he could change how he perceived them. He walked back home with a calm and steady heart.
