In a quiet village, a young man named Somu worked as a helper on a large farm. He earned a modest salary of one hundred rupees a month. Somu was a hardworking and honest person, but his income was barely enough to cover his basic needs.
One evening, his close friend Ravi came to visit him. Ravi’s family was going through a very difficult time. "Somu, please help me," Ravi pleaded. "My sister is unwell, and I need money to buy her medicine. Could you lend me fifty rupees? I promise to return it as soon as I get my wages next month."
Somu looked distressed. "I wish I could help, Ravi, but my salary is only one hundred rupees. After paying for my food and shelter, I have almost nothing left. I don't know how I can give you fifty rupees right now."
As Ravi prepared to leave with a heavy heart, Somu’s wife, Nila, stepped forward. "Don't worry, Ravi. We will help you," she said calmly. She went inside the small house and returned a few moments later with a small cloth pouch containing fifty rupees.
Somu was astonished. "Nila, where did we get this money? I thought we were struggling to make ends meet!"
Nila smiled gently and replied, "It is not about how much we earn, Somu, but how we manage it. Every month, I carefully plan our expenses. Out of our hundred rupees, I make sure we only spend what is necessary and save ten rupees every single month. This money comes from those small savings."
Somu felt a deep sense of respect for his wife's wisdom. He realized that even with a small income, one could be prepared for emergencies through discipline and foresight. From that day on, Somu and Nila lived a life of contentment, knowing that their small habits were building a secure future.
