In a quiet village lived an elderly man named Somu. His most cherished companion was a dog named Rocky. For many years, Rocky had been the guardian of Somu’s home, always alert and energetic. However, as the seasons passed, Rocky grew old. His once swift strides became slow, and his playful spirit was now hindered by aching joints.
One sunny morning, Somu went to tend to his vegetable garden. Suddenly, he spotted a tiny rabbit darting through the bushes, nibbling on his precious carrots. Frustrated, Somu pointed at the rabbit and commanded, "Rocky, go! Catch that rabbit before it ruins everything!"
Rocky tried his best to spring into action. He took a few hurried steps, but his legs felt heavy and his breath came in short gasps. The rabbit was far too quick for his aging body. After a few unsuccessful attempts to chase, Rocky slowly walked back to Somu and sat quietly by his feet, looking up with sad, weary eyes.
"What is wrong, Rocky?" Somu sighed impatiently. "You can't even catch a small rabbit anymore? You've become so useless!"
Rocky looked deeply into Somu’s eyes, conveying a silent plea. It was as if he were saying, "Master, my heart still wants to run and protect you just like before. I wish I could serve you with strength, but my body no longer obeys me. Please do not push me away just because I am old."
In that moment, a wave of realization hit Somu. He thought about his own life—how he often felt lonely and overlooked because of his age. He realized that Rocky was feeling the exact same thing. He had forgotten that loyalty is not measured by speed or strength, but by the heart.
Feeling a deep sense of regret, Somu knelt down and gently stroked Rocky’s head. "I am sorry, my friend," he whispered. "You are not useless. You are my family, and I will always be by your side."
Moral
Respect and care for those who grow old; true loyalty is measured by the heart, not by ability.
