In a lush green forest, there lived a mighty lion named Kalingan. He was not just a powerful king but also a kind leader who cared for all his subjects. His closest companion was a clever fox.
One harsh summer, a terrible drought struck the forest. The rivers turned into dusty paths, and the ponds dried up completely. The animals grew weak with thirst. Seeing this, the fox whispered to the lion, "Your Majesty, there is an old stone well hidden behind your cave that still has water. If you keep it a secret and use it only for yourself, you will never go thirsty until the rains arrive."
At first, the lion thought about keeping the water for himself. But as he watched the tired deer and the thirsty birds, his heart melted. He realized that a king's duty was to protect everyone, not just himself. He called a meeting of all the animals.
"Friends," Kalingan announced, "The hidden well has very little water. It won't last long. Instead, let us work together to dig a massive new pond. If you all help build this pond, I will share the water from the secret well with everyone whenever anyone is in need."
The animals were inspired by his honesty. The elephants used their tusks to move heavy rocks, the monkeys cleared the branches, and the smaller animals helped smooth the soil. It was a massive task, but they worked with great teamwork.
Soon, a large, beautiful pond was ready. Just as the pond was finished, the monsoon clouds gathered and poured heavy rain. The new pond filled up beautifully, along with the old well. The forest was green and happy once again. The fox felt deeply ashamed of his selfish advice, realizing that the lion's wisdom had saved the entire forest.
