In a peaceful village lived a farmer named Somu. He was known for his kind heart and for always helping his neighbors. His neighbor, Ravi, was a much wealthier farmer with vast lands and healthy cattle.
One year, a terrible drought hit the village. Somu’s crops withered, and his family began to struggle. Looking at Ravi’s overflowing granary, a dark thought entered Somu’s mind. 'If I take some of Ravi's grain secretly, my family won't go hungry,' he whispered to himself.
Late one night, as Somu prepared to sneak into Ravi's barn, his wife, Nila, caught him. She didn't yell; instead, she spoke softly, 'Somu, we may be hungry today, but if we take what isn't ours through deceit, we will lose our peace and our character. Let us earn our living with dignity.'
Somu felt a sharp sting of shame. He realized that gaining wealth through evil means would only lead to ruin. He decided to walk away. Soon, the rains returned. Through hard work and honesty, Somu rebuilt his farm. Seeing Somu's integrity, Ravi even helped him with seeds to start anew. Somu learned that a clear conscience is more valuable than stolen gold.
