In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Arjun. He was a gifted artist who poured his heart into every sketch. In the same village lived a young man named Vikram, who cared more about being praised than actually being talented. Vikram spent most of his time telling everyone how great he was, even though his work was mediocre.
One summer, the village held a grand art competition. Arjun worked day and night, capturing the soul of the mountains in his painting. Vikram, however, painted a simple sunset and spent the whole time boasting that he would surely win. When the judges announced Arjun as the winner, Vikram was furious. He stormed up to Arjun and shouted, 'You cheated! You are a terrible artist, and everyone knows it!'
An old wise man, who had witnessed the scene, approached Vikram. 'Why are you so upset with Arjun?' the old man asked gently. 'He didn't hurt you. If people do not praise you, it is not because they are mean, but because you have not yet earned their respect through your skill. Instead of grieving over those who despise your work, grieve over your own lack of excellence and strive to improve.' Vikram realized his mistake. He stopped seeking empty applause and started practicing his art with true dedication.
