In a peaceful little town lived a boy named Kiran. Kiran loved his toys dearly and kept them very neat. His best friend, Arjun, often played at Kiran's house. One sunny afternoon, Kiran left his brand-new wooden sailboat on his desk and went to the garden to play. Arjun, seeing the beautiful toy, couldn't resist touching it.
As Arjun picked it up, the mast of the boat suddenly snapped. Arjun’s heart raced. He knew how much Kiran cherished that sailboat. He thought to himself, 'If I hide this under the bed, Kiran might never know. I won't get into trouble.' But then, he remembered how much it would hurt Kiran to find his favorite toy broken later on. He realized that even if he wasn't caught, the act of breaking it and hiding it was something that would cause sorrow.
When Kiran came back, Arjun took a deep breath and said, 'Kiran, I am so sorry. I was looking at your boat and it accidentally broke.' Kiran looked at the broken mast and felt a sting of sadness. But then he looked at Arjun's honest face. 'I am sad about the boat, Arjun, but I am happy you told me the truth. We can fix the boat, but a lie would break our friendship.' Together, they spent the afternoon gluing the wood back together. Arjun learned that true kindness means avoiding actions that we know will hurt others.
