In a peaceful village lived a young boy named Leo and his grandfather. Leo was a bright and energetic boy, but he sometimes acted without thinking. While playing in the garden, he would often accidentally step on tiny ants or crush small insects without realizing it.
One sunny afternoon, Leo spotted a magnificent, bright blue butterfly resting on a flower. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. 'I must catch it!' Leo thought. 'I will keep it in a jar and show it to everyone!' He began to creep toward the flower, reaching out his hands.
'Wait, Leo,' his grandfather called out softly.
Leo turned around. 'But Grandpa, look how beautiful it is! I just want to hold it.'
Grandpa sat him down on a wooden bench. 'Leo, do you know what makes a person's path truly good? It is not about how fast you run or how much you win. A truly good path is one where you live in a way that you do not cause harm or death to any living creature.'
He pointed to the butterfly. 'That butterfly was born to dance in the wind, not to live in a jar. By trying to capture it, you are taking away its freedom and its life. To respect life, even the smallest life, is the highest virtue.'
Leo looked at the butterfly. He noticed how its tiny wings trembled as he approached. He realized that his desire to 'own' its beauty was actually causing it fear. Slowly, Leo pulled his hands back. The butterfly flapped its wings and soared high into the blue sky. Watching it fly free made Leo feel a warmth in his heart that was much better than holding a butterfly in a jar. From that day on, Leo walked carefully, making sure his path was kind to every living thing.
