In a peaceful village nestled near the mountains, a young boy named Arul lived with his grandfather, a wise old man. One afternoon, Arul was running through a meadow, trying to catch a bright, golden butterfly. No matter how fast he ran, the butterfly always escaped him.
Grandfather watched him and smiled gently. "Arul, you are chasing something beautiful, but it is fleeting. Once the sun sets, that butterfly will be gone, and you will look for another."
Arul stopped, panting. "But Grandfather, isn't beauty worth chasing?"
Grandfather led him to the edge of a still, clear lake. "The butterfly is like the things of this world—pleasure, fame, and possessions. They come and go, leaving us searching for more. But look at the reflection of the stars in this water. To see them clearly, the water must be perfectly still."
He continued, "If you learn to look beyond these passing shadows and find the True Being—the eternal truth within you—you will find a path that never ends. Those who find that truth do not wander aimlessly through the cycles of desire and loss ever again. They find a home that is permanent."
From that day on, Arul stopped chasing shadows. He began to focus on kindness, patience, and understanding the deeper meaning of life. His heart felt a peace that no butterfly could ever provide.
