In a peaceful valley lived a woman named Elara and her husband, Julian. Julian was a traveling woodcarver. One spring, he had to leave for a long journey to complete a special project. During his absence, Elara’s days were filled with longing. She would sit by the window, watching the path, hoping to see him return. Her eyes grew weary, but sleep would not come because her heart was searching for him.
When Julian finally returned, a new kind of restlessness began. Even though he was right there beside her, Elara found it hard to sleep. When he was near, she wanted to spend every waking moment gazing at his face and listening to his stories. She would stay awake late into the night, just watching him sleep or simply enjoying his presence.
One evening, Julian asked her softly, 'Elara, why do you stay awake so late?' She smiled and replied, 'When you are away, my eyes ache with the sadness of missing you. When you are here, my eyes refuse to close because they don't want to miss a single moment of you.' Her love had turned her eyes into restless seekers of his presence.
